I can see what you mean by fast and wanna-be, but I do like your ideas. Especially on Conan's face with it being like Frank Millered into pock marked oblivion. It's got this really nice, seventies/eighties comic art feel. A little bit of Frank Miller, a little bit Barry Smith. If it is any consolation, I like this more than that grotesgue they put on the newstands these days.
I know it's already been said, but the sense of motion in this pic is really awesome.
The tree and the snow add an excellent contrast of black and white imagery. I know you are fond of colouring your pics, but I almost want to see this one left in black and white.
I like Conan's dynamic pose and the crisp linework. I personally think the guy on the lower right should have been looking in Conan's direction also, him looking all nonchalant like that feels weird. Though I understand that it's Conan taking them by surprise, the effect would have been just as well expressed if the guy were looking at him with a classic "Oh crap, I'm screwed" look on his face. Instead, he looks like he's muttering, "Oh, it's just Conan. Never mind him."
On closer examination, it appears the guy on the right may be sleeping, but I'm not sure. I get this from the way he's holding his spear, but the way you drew his face, I'm not entirely sure. If he is sleeping, lowering his head and slouching him would bring that across more.
I'm sure you're not going to edit this, but I figured I'd express my thoughts on it anyway, and heck, I could be dead wrong.
very nice, i think everything is working really well and im gonna disagree and say its not cluttered just very balanced. and everything fits together, the verticals of the spears tree and conan. the thing that needs work is his left hand looks forced and a little off.
I really like the 3 guys and their various expressions, but I can't help but feel the tree conflicts with the conan wannabe's outline on hi right side there. To me it feels a tad cluttered... for lack of a better word. There is probably some proper art term for what I want to say. The sense of action in the scene is also nice.
